Buying cleaning products from your local store is easy and quick to do. No wonder the common consumer household fill their cabinets with store bought products! The downside to this convenience is the potential toxins in these products. Cleaning products can be toxic for your skin and eyes if it gets on your skin or if you ingest it accidentally. The good news is creating your own cleaning products is ridiculously easy – it’s fast, effective, and best of all, it’s safe.
Drain Cleaner
What You’ll Need:
1/2 Cup Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Salt
1/8 Cup Cream of Tarter
1 Bowl
4 Cups of Boiling Water
What You’ll Do:
Mix together baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar in a measuring cup. Once mixed, boil about 4 cups of water. To use this as a drain cleaner, pour half of the powdered mixture into the drain. Follow the mixture with 2 cups of boiling water. Give the mixture a few minutes to work down the drain, then repeat the step with the remaining mixture and boiling water.
All Purpose Cleaner
* Use for all purposes except for cleaning granite and marble
What You’ll Need:
2 Tbsp baking soda
½ Cup of vinegar
2 Cups of water
15 Drops of tea tree oil (and any other essential oils scents that you like)
1 Measuring cup
1 Spray bottle
Label maker or marker
In a measuring cup, add all the ingredients listed. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and voila! You can label the bottle with a label maker or marker.
Toilet Fizzy Bombs
What You’ll Need:
1⅓ Cup baking soda
½ Cup citric acid
¼ Cup of water
30 Drops of essential oils of your choice
1 Bowl
1 Measuring cup
1 Ice cube tray
What You’ll Do:
In the bowl, add the baking soda and citric acid. Slowly pour water into the bowl, make sure the mixture is still fluffy and loose (don’t completely dampen the mixture!). Once the ingredients are mixed together, add your choice of essential oils. Transfer the mixture into the ice cube trays. Let the mixture sit in the freezer for about an hour. To use, simply drop the bomb into the toilet. You can use a brush to clean the bowl. Once the bomb stops fizzing, go ahead and flush!
Bathroom and Shower Hardware Cleaner and Polish
What You’ll Need:
Lemons!

What You’ll Do:
Cut the lemons in half, and like a scrub, rub the lemons all over the handles of sinks and showers to clean them. Follow up with a cloth and see how shiny it can be!
The best thing about making your own cleaning products is the control you have over what you add to it. Store bought products have harsh and harmful chemicals in them that can irritate your skin, or even trigger asthma. The best route to take if you notice negative impact from store bought cleaners is to create your own. Your health and wallet will thank you!
Wow, I didn’t know there were alternatives! I am so impressed. What can get hard ( and I mean HARD) water stains out of the tub? Since, obviously, one cannot flush the tub.
