Making your own beauty products right at home not only saves you money, it can save your skin from unhealthy harsh chemicals. These ‘do it yourself’ (DIY) products keeps your skin from absorbing perfumes and additives such as aluminum, parabens, and alcohol, that are not good for you. Just like unprocessed foods helps your internal health, natural and organic beauty products can help your external health. These products can be great gifts as well! Here are four common beauty products that you can easily make at home:

Natural Deodorant

deoderant

What you’ll need:

4 Tbsp of coconut oil

4 Tbsp of arrowroot starch

2 Tbsp baking soda

Essential oils of your choice

1 Empty container

1 Bowl

1 Spoon

What you’ll do:

In a bowl, mix together baking soda and arrowroot. Mix in coconut oil (using warm coconut oil can help you mix the ingredients together more easily). Once mixed, drop in about 30-40 drops of your choice of essential oils (you can use as many scents as you’d like!). Move this mixture into your chosen container. Leave the mixture for about half an hour to solidify.  Once the mixture sets, you’re ready to use your natural deodorant!

Homemade Mascara

marcara

What you’ll need:

3 Capsules of activated charcoal

1 Tsp coconut oil

1 Tsp Vitamin E oil

½ Tsp beeswax

3 to 4 Tsp aloe vera gel

1 Clean mascara tube (you can thoroughly clean an old mascara tube with baby soap)

2 Bowls

1 sandwich bag with a tiny bit of the corner cut (to act as an icing bag, you’ll use this to transfer the final mixture into the tube)

What you’ll do:

In one bowl, mix together the vitamin E and coconut oil, and beeswax. In another bowl, add boiling water (enough to slightly touch the first bowl when stacked). Stack the first bowl (with mixture in it) on top of the bowl with boiling water to help melt the mixture. Once the mixture is mixed and melted together, add aloe vera and the capsules of activated charcoal. Put the mixture into the sandwich bag. Grab the mascara tube and squeeze the tube (for suction) as you squeeze in the mixture from the sandwich bag.

Homemade Blush

What you’ll need:

1 Tsp cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)

Beet powder

Small container

1 Bowl

Add cornstarch to the bowl. Mix in beet powder slowly. You’ll want to add a little bit at a time, then mix. Try the color on your hands or your cheeks. If you desire more of a pink tint, add more beet powder. It’s best to add little by little so you can control the tint of the blush. Once the desired tint is achieved, pour the powder mixture into the small container.

Natural Shampoo

What you’ll need:

¼ Cup Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap

¼ Cup water (or coconut milk for a more creamy texture)

Foaming soap container

½ Tsp of fractionated coconut oil

15 to 20 Drops essential oils – the scent you prefer

What you’ll do:

In the container, mix all the ingredients together, and voila! It’s ready to use!

These beauty products are incredibly easy and quick to make! The best part about these products is that you can highly customize them. You can select what scents you want, and the texture as well. Switching to natural products may take your skin and scalp time to get used to it but is so worth it.
