If you’re a human being, chances are you’ve experienced a day in your life that was overall crappy. How did you respond when things got off track? Did you push through? Or did you let the negativity take over your entire day? Finding solutions to help you restart a bad day, morning or night, can help you be more productive and successful. Here are some tips on how to do just that.

Fresh Air

Fresh Air

Never underestimate the power of fresh air and a change of scenery. It’s okay to take a break when things feel overwhelming and difficult. Carolyn Steber, a writer for bustle.com states, “If the office is just a morass of bad situations, cut out early. If you’re home and you can’t escape the bad news situations, get out of the house,”New York–based relationship expert and author April Masini tells Bustle. “Sometimes something as simple as taking yourself out of an environment can do the trick!” A little time and distance from any situation can help provide much needed perspective.

Accomplish Simple Tasks

Make yourself a to do list to help keep you organized and on task. List everything you need to get done for the day. Include things that are easy to do such as ‘shower’ and ‘eat lunch’. When you set yourself up for numerous ‘wins’ during your day, you will feel accomplished and happy. If you find yourself having difficulties in any aspect of your day, take a break and check off some easy things from your list. These small wins can do so much for your sense of accomplishment and overall happiness.

Do an Act of Service

Performing a selfless act of service is a great way to restart a crappy day. Keep in mind this can mean anything. Bringing a co-worker a cup of coffee or snack from the vending machine, emptying out someone’s trash, or making copies for someone are just a couple ideas you can do to turn somebody’s day around. When you’re overwhelmed with negative thoughts about your own day, try to think outside yourself about the needs of another person. The feeling you get when you serve someone else is powerful and can help you escape your funk.

Gratitude

Gratitude

Steber also wrote, “It may sound too good to be true, but gratitude really is everything when it comes to shifting your perspective. So take a second and focus on creating a gratitude list. “Be as specific as possible with what it is you’re grateful for and why,” Sarah Moe, a happiness coach at Flauk tells Bustle. “This helps to re-center you and remind you that not everything is going terribly. It also starts an upswing in your day.” Focusing on the positive can help you realize that even though you’re having a difficult day, there are pockets of happiness everywhere.
