There is so much static and noise in our society today – what’s fashionable, what’s in, who’s in – it’s hard to stay true to yourself in a world that is constantly changing.  We are all at our happiest when we are authentically ourselves, free from competition or comparison.  Promising to love one’s self no matter what can be challenging, but here are a few ways to get your confidence meter up and live life just as you are!

Find your theme song

music

There’s a reason why baseball players have their song play as they go up to bat – it hypes them up and gets them in the literal game.  Music is so powerful and there is a song for every emotion and feeling.  Find your favorite song or the soundtrack to your life and listen to it next time you need a pick me up, a good cry or a full out dance in your pj’s around the house party.

Practice Gratitude

As humans we tend to look at the glass half empty.  We compare ourselves to others, whether we understand the full scope of their lives or not.  Comparison is a waste of energy and no one has ever felt truly happier as a result.  Channel that energy into practicing gratitude. It’s said that it is impossible to feel anger, anxiety or stress when being grateful for something.  Create a gratitude jar that you can drop little notes in when you feel like it and watch the jar becoming fuller and fuller every day.  Even taking a few moments a day, especially when times get tough and mentally make a list of things you are grateful for will get you in the right mindset seeing the good definitely outweighs the bad.

Surround yourself with your people, your tribe

Find those people in your life who make you smile, laugh and feel good about yourself.  Be open and honest with them, we all need somebody to lean on.  Try not getting so involved with negative people or people who steal your energy.

Smile

smileIt’s so easy it’s silly.  Even when it hurts and you just want to scream, try smiling.  You can trick yourself into happy without trying very hard.  It uses more muscles in your face to frown than to smile, so get happy and eliminate unwanted wrinkles at the same time!

Your home is your haven

There’s no place like home – it’s your safe spot free from all the chaos and craziness in this world.  Everyone needs an escape and a place to feel they can relax and unwind.  Make sure you keep your house clean and fill it with things that make you happy.  When you are surrounded by things that make you smile, it’s an instant boost.

We search all of our lives to feel good about ourselves and be happy.   It’s actually more in our control than we think. Don’t look at happiness as a destination to reach, try practicing some of these tricks and small steps and enjoy the journey along the way!
