Summer is a fantastic time to get active and try new things.  Utilize those extra hours daylight savings gifts us, hello sun still out at 7:30pm!  That sweet spot right after work, but before the sun goes to sleep is optimal time to get your sweat on, which will help you unwind the rest of the evening.

Chasing the Sun

Take up running with a buddy and a downloadable running program.  Running is an awesome workout and the weather can be perfect right before the sun sets.  Power up with a pumped playlist and hit the pavement.  You can enter virtual races to keep your motivation up – you never know where it might take you.

Yogi Yourself

Nothing helps ease a hectic day more than yoga.  Harnessing your breathing will work wonders in all areas of your life.  Practice in a studio after a long day – many places have evening classes.  Taking a Heated Yin Yoga might even have you falling asleep on the mat.  The summertime is the perfect time to take your mat outside and practice in the park for a different option.

Kick that Bad Day to the Curb, Literally.

People with built-up aggression towards co-workers, this one is for you.  After a long day at work, there is nothing more we want to do than go home and collapse.  While the sun is still shining, keeping you motivated, make a quick detour to the gym, and put up your dukes.  Maximize your relaxation time once you get home by punching all that crap your dealt with during your day into a bag of sand.

The Great Outdoors

Summer is the perfect excuse to get outside and get sweaty.  The best types of activities are the ones that trick you into getting a good workout without feeling like you are working hard.  Activities like kayaking, swimming and tennis are awesome just to name a few.  You can trick your mind to have fun while burning calories.  Search out some local groups that meet up for these types of activities.  You can socialize and work out all at the same time.

Walking on Sunshine

If you don’t feel like getting an all-out sweat inducing workout outside, just going for a walk can have great benefits as well.  Try taking a walk with your significant other, pet, friend or family after dinner.  It will help with digestion and clear your head.  Use those extra hours of daylight to fit in a quick (or long) walk.

There are so many awesome activities to do in the summer to make the most of your active lifestyle.  Instead of dreading the long days that seem to go on forever, use those magical extra hours of sun for good.  You and the sun will be able to relax and recharge more effectively, together.
