It’s that time. You’ve been planning for months and counting down the days. All of your bags are packed, and you’re more than ready to go. However, there is often one more thing that separates you from your home and enviable vacation spot – the airport.
Let’s be real. Airports are not usually a person’s first choice to spend their time. Nevertheless, it’s a necessary route to fly and take off to your destination spot. Whether you’re flying for business or pleasure, these tips can help minimize your stress while integrating health and wellness into your time at the airport.
Boarding Pass
We have many options for accessing our boarding pass thanks to technology. You can print it at the airline counter, print it off at home, text it to yourself, and even download it through an airline app. While all of the options are wonderful, I recommend always having a backup boarding pass, especially if you’re using a mobile version. An easy way to make sure you’re not fumbling through your phone or waiting for the image to download is have a printed copy handy or take a screenshot of your boarding pass just in case.
Parking Spot
If you park at the airport, make sure to spend a few extra seconds to take a photo of your parking spot. It can be easy to forget where you’ve parked after traveling, so make sure the photo includes signage identifying your car’s location.
Airline App
It seems like there is an app for everything now, and an airline app is another one you should consider downloading before your trip. Checking into your flight is a breeze through the app. You will also be able to receive alerts if your flight is delayed or cancelled. Some airline apps even include a map of the airport to help you navigate tricky terminals.
Clothes, Socks, and Shoes
When deciding what clothes to wear, try to aim for an outfit that is comfortable and presentable. The balance is key as well as being smart with layers. It may seem obvious, but opt to wear socks to the airport. Sandals are comfortable and easy, but socks are far more hygienic and safe when going through the security line. Socks can also be handy to have on board for colder airplane temperatures. Slip-on shoes will also help you get through security easier.
Snacks and Meals
Airport food is downright pricey. Whether it be the grab-and-go vendor or sit-down restaurant, it’s often difficult to find a healthy meal at an affordable price. Pack ahead and be prepared. This should be your golden rule when it comes to food at the airport. You may be surprised how delicious a simple PB&J sandwich is when you’re able to forgo the unappealing sandwiches packed in plastic containers. Remember to keep the liquids restriction in mind when you’re packing your meals. Salad dressing, soup, and yogurt cannot exceed the maximum liquid requirement.
Water
In addition to packing snacks ahead of time, don’t forget to bring an empty water bottle with you. No one should have to pay over a few dollars for water. Many airports often have water bottle filling stations near the restrooms, so take advantage of this free perk!
Eye and Face Masks
This last tip may not be for everyone, but it can be a great way to combat the stress of flying. Once you finally make it onto your plane, applying an eye and/or face mask can help you relax and combat the dry air in planes. You may look a little silly, but it’s so worth it.
