It can be tricky to stay healthy while on a trip. The environment is different, your routine isn’t the same, and you typically don’t have all of your usual “go to” items available to you. On the other hand, a trip can be fun and exciting. Trips are a great break from the usual day-to-day responsibilities and monotony. The only catch is it can sometimes be harder to stay healthy while on vacation. This is not to say that you need to eat, exercise, and sleep perfectly when you’re on vacation. You should enjoy your time away from home! However, no one enjoys coming home from a nice trip and getting sick. Below are a few tips to make sure you stay on top of your health, even when on vacation.

Taking Vitamins

Be prepared!

One of the easiest ways to stay healthy while on vacation is to be prepared. Remember to pack any supplements, vitamins, or medicine you may need in your travel bag. There are plenty of options for smaller containers and organizers, so you don’t have to pack your large jug of protein powder or vitamins. The key is to take only what you think you’ll need and pack the necessities. This is a simple way to help you stick to part of your home routine and make sure your body is getting at least a baseline of everything it needs while you’re traveling.

Plan ahead!

In addition to being prepared, it can be helpful to plan health promoting activities ahead of time. For example, if you plan on squeezing in a gym workout or run while you’re away, it can help to plan out which workout clothes you’ll need. If you know you typically feel a little under the weather after traveling, it can also be helpful to pack some Vitamin C packets or Zinc to help boost your immune system.

Stay hydrated!

Another key item to bring with you is a water bottle. Whether you’re traveling by plane, car, or boat, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water is a great way to help keep you healthy regardless of what your travel activities entail.

Mediate!

While not everyone may enjoy mediating, the simple act of sitting quietly for even a few minutes can make a big difference when you’re traveling. It can help calm your mind and relieve your stress levels. There are plenty of apps available to help you as well if you’re just a beginner!

Journal!

As with meditating, not everyone may journal regularly. But, writing your thoughts and feelings down can be very helpful. Journaling can help you process your thoughts or even just be a simple way to reflect on the day. You may even find that journaling while you’re on vacation is another great way to document your memories and experiences.

Walking

Take a walk!

If mediation and journaling are not your thing, walking may be a more manageable tip to try while you’re traveling. Depending on the type of vacation, you may already be doing more walking than usual. If you’re not, then it can be helpful to step outside and breathe the fresh air for about 15 minutes. Walking has many health benefits and is also a great way to explore a new place!
